Buddha, Thailand, Second Half Of The 19th Century
THAILAND, Second half of the 19th century. Statuette depicting a seated Buddha in a meditative posture, legs crossed in padmāsana, right hand touching the earth (bhūmisparśa mudrā). The peaceful face, with closed eyelids, is slightly inclined towards the ground. The hair is composed of small, regular curls, and the top of the head is surmounted by a hemispherical uṣṇīṣa (without a flame). The monastic robe with engraved motifs falls over one shoulder and is decorated with a low-relief design. Erosion on the lower part (see photos). The base, with molded dentils, is decorated with an elegant motif of concentric arcs and scrolls, typical of the Siamese tradition. Red lacquered wood, traces of gilding.
