"Early 20th Century Cast Iron Maillard Fireplace Stove "
This stove had the unique feature of allowing a fire to be lit in the lower section, like a traditional fireplace, and also within the stove itself. It also had a compartment on the side for heating water, ensuring a constant supply of hot water. History: Thomas Nicolas Maillard, born November 4, 1842, in Boucq (54), was a baker. He presented his new stove and fireplace-stove, both patented, at the exhibitions in Châlons-sur-Marne and Épernay in 1890, and then in Bar-le-Duc in 1891. He established his business in Ligny-en-Barrois from 1890 until his death in 1910. In 1910, the Chanlaire company of Dommartin-le-Franc acquired the business and the manufacturing patent. This foundry supplied the molded parts for assembling the stoves in Ligny. Her grave in the Ligny cemetery was adorned with a bronze replica of a stove. This plaque was stolen a few years ago.
