Jean Antoine Armand Vergeaud, more commonly known as Armand Vergeaud, born August 2, 1875, in Angoulême, died October 5, 1949, in Tunis. He was a student of Gustave Moreau, Fernand Cormon, and François Flameng at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1927 to 1950, he was the second director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis. He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received an honorable mention in 1902, and became a full member in 1906. He was awarded a third-class medal in 1909, the Legion of Honor in 1932, and a bronze medal in 1937 at the Paris International Exposition. He is listed in the Benezit, a dictionary of painters, sculptors, draftsmen, and engravers.
