Lively Riverside Scene. Theodore Houzon. (1829-1914).
Artist: Théodore Houzon
A lovely early 20th-century canvas depicting a riverbank lined with tall trees in summer, enlivened by figures: washerwomen and fishermen in the distance. The canvas is very luminous. It is signed in the lower left by Théodore Douzon, a French painter born in Paris in 1829 and died in 1914. He is listed as a landscape painter, watercolorist, draftsman, and engraver. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, at the drawing school at the Musée Rath with B. Menn, and under Jules Hébert. He lived in Geneva from 1853. Douzon exhibited in Geneva from 1859, where he became a naturalized citizen. He painted landscapes and produced wash drawings. Some of his works can be found in the Geneva Museum. There is a small, barely visible restoration in the sky on the left. Dimensions of the canvas only: 55 cm x 38 cm. (That is a 10 Landscape). With a canvas-covered baguette frame, 61 cm x 46.5 cm.
