Fortuné Car was born in 1905 in Marseille and died in 1970.
A celebrated Provençal artist, born into a family where painting was passed down from generation to generation. In the 1930s, he took over his uncle's workshop, a theater set designer.
This large workshop allowed him to create sets, and he then turned to easel painting. He quickly found his niche in the Provençal style of painting. , with its scenes of fishermen.
His strong and colorful painting, enriched by a beautiful texture born from his mastery of the brush and especially the palette knife. His image as a painter of Provence was exported, particularly to Canada where he was a member of the Royal Academy of Painting of Montreal.
