Italian Majolica Devotional Plaque
A devotional plaque depicting the Virgin Mary nursing the Infant Jesus, framed by fluted columns supporting a curved pediment representing the Resurrection of Christ. The reverse bears the inscription "Monastero St Maria di Venetia 1494". The subject is based on a Renaissance model by Galeazzo Mondella, known as Moderno. A similar example is in the Modena Museum.
