"Meissen - The Cries Of Paris, Mother With Cradle"
Meissen porcelain figurine from the "Cries of Paris" series, Mother with Cradle (Mutter mit Wiege). Model created by Peter Reinicke between 1753 and 1754. Marked with blue crossed swords and numbered 22, 20th century, height: 14 cm. In very good condition, only the staff she holds in her right hand is missing. Listed in the Meissen Bergmann catalogue, "History of the Cries of Paris." The crier appears there as a public service under royal authority. Men, women, and children walked the streets, calling out their wares or services to attract customers. Each trade had its own characteristic cry. Meissen drew inspiration from these trades and created a series of 34 figurines featuring these characters.
