Portrait Of Ernst Von Metternich, 17th Century

Oil on canvas, depicting Ernst von Metternich (1657-1727), Prussian diplomat. Upon the death of Marie de Nemours in 1707, he inherited the principality of Neuchâtel from King Frederick I of Prussia and became its governor. The portrait is signed on the back by Johann Rudolf Huber in 1708, a Swiss portrait painter born in Basel in 1668 and died in 1748. Late 17th - early 18th century
