Antique French Piqué Tortoiseshell Patch Box

Small circular French tortoiseshell patch box (boîte à mouches) finely decorated in piqué d’or, 19th century. The translucent honey-amber shell is inlaid with dozens of tiny gold stars arranged in a regular pattern across the lid and around the sides, framed by a gold border of repeating motifs. The lid lifts off to reveal the original plain interior. A charming and elegant little box with a warm colour and beautiful sparkle to the gold decoration.

Diameter: 4.5 cm

Good antique condition, witha small chip to the rim and light surface wear from use, consistent with age.
