"Marquetry Glove Box From The Napoleon III Era, By Vene Frères In Bordeaux, Circa 1860"
A Napoleon III period glove box, circa 1860. Marquetry of thuya burl, mahogany, lemonwood, ebonized wood, and rosewood with inlays of brass, bone, and mother-of-pearl. The lid lifts, and the front crossbar folds down to reveal a rosewood-veneered interior. The central decoration features a Louis XVI style medallion. It rests on four turned ebonized wood feet. A Vene Frères label from Bordeaux is affixed underneath. Includes its key and working lock. In very good condition.
