Pewter Box With Lion/foo Dog Design, Qing Dynasty, China, 19th Century
Beautiful 19th-century pewter tobacco or opium box originating from Qing Dynasty China. The eyes and the tip of the tail, green balls, are likely made of glass. The chasing is repoussé. It opens from the top. Interior dimensions: Length 9.7 cm, Width 5 cm, Depth 8 cm. A stamp is incised inside the lid. The lid handle is covered with a stone. Note two dents from use.
