A refined 18th-century Italian painting. This artwork oil on canvas depicts a splendid Madonna and Child with a cherub, crafted with exquisite skill. The composition dates stylistically to the first half of the 18th century; the diffuse luminosity and delicate chromatic transitions recall the models of the Tuscan school.
The figure of the Virgin, with her oval face and absorbed gaze turned heavenward, is rendered with touching sweetness. The tender and plump baby Jesus nestles naturally in his mother's womb, while the little angel peering down from above with splendid golden curls contributes to an atmosphere of celestial serenity. The Virgin's soft drapery skillfully alternates pink and blue tones, with the use of light caressing the volumes with an almost vaporous effect. Its unique format makes it ideal for an elegant living space, whether classic or contemporary.
The canvas is mounted in a striking 20th-century octagonal gilded wooden frame, beautifully decorated but with some signs of aging. The painting has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and repainting in small areas. Overall, it is in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 115 x W 99 cm.
