Painting is signed for acknowledged artist Niels Holbak 1884-1954, who educated at the Art Academy in Finland 1909-10 and was taught at the Art Academy in Copenhagen from 1912-1914 and was among others taught by Laurits Tuxen. He worked as a painter in the summer to earn money to study in the winter. Later, Niels Holbak became a teacher at the Technical School in Esbjerg, in the city where he also lived most of his life.
Niels Holbak's paintings are, among other places, represented at Ølgod Museum.
He was member of Nymindegabmalerne, er en malerkoloni i Nymindegab.
Picture depicts 2 greybeards, perhaps friends, discussing some vital life aspects in atmosphere of church rector's calm cabinet. Lovely and informative.
