Chinese Box In Cinnabar Lacquer
A very pretty round box made of red cinnabar lacquer. Over time, the lacquer has changed color, becoming a dark burgundy, almost black. Reddish hues remain in places. Floral decoration adorns the top of the box. Cinnabar, a bright red mineral, is mixed with lacquer on a wooden or metal base. Cinnabar is a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture. The box is in very good condition.
