Biedermeier table, Brandenburg, circa 1820 – birch, Peacock Island, Berlin A rare original piece from the early Biedermeier period, made around 1820 in Brandenburg. A comparable model is listed in the historical inventory of Peacock Island in Berlin and is also pictured there – a beautiful testament to the elegant simplicity and refined sense of form of this period. When the table is best kept in harmony with the proportions, the central pillar with trefoil base and the warm, honey-coloured birch wood with delicate grain. Typical Biedermeier – simple, functional and yet full of charm and lightness. The table is in need of restoration: the top has a few small imperfections and should be repolished to refresh it. However, the substance is very well preserved – an ideal basis for careful restoration.
