The ewer was hand-painted by E. Duc, a renowned 18th-century artist specializing in French earthenware, particularly from the Tournai and Langeais manufactories, famous for their exquisitely hand-painted porcelain pieces. He is recognized for his contribution to French earthenware and porcelain.
The subject is a coastal scene inspired by Joseph Vernet, born in Avignon in 1714. Vernet studied there before settling in Rome in 1734.
He painted numerous coastal scenes and was commissioned by King Louis XV to paint twenty-five French ports. The ewer is in perfect condition.
Signed: d'apres J. Vernet (after J. Vernet) E. Duc.
