Art Nouveau Hand Candlestick In Bronze And Brass, Decorated With Arum Leaves, Lotus And Iris, Circa 1900
An Art Nouveau hand candlestick in bronze and brass, featuring an elegant naturalistic design typical of the movement. The base, finely chiseled in the shape of an arum leaf, supports a sinuous stem ending in a lotus bud that serves as the candle holder. The whole is surmounted by a removable blue opaline crystal bobeche with a scalloped rim, adding a touch of delicacy and color. This candlestick is also distinguished by its dual function: it incorporates a match holder (pyrogene) finely decorated with a relief iris motif, allowing the candle and matches to be kept close at hand. A beautiful piece combining decorative refinement and practical ingenuity, emblematic of the naturalistic taste of the Belle Époque.
