Magnificent and spectacular six-panel Japanese folding screen in the style of the famous traditional Japanese Byobu (wind screens). Lacquered black with a gold leaf background, it features elegant cranes frolicking in the shade of a conifer. These finely painted cranes are engraved in relief. In Japan, cranes symbolize longevity, peace, and good fortune. The six panels of this screen are decorated with bamboo, water lilies, and small birds engraved in relief on a black lacquered background. The brass-covered feet add a very chic decorative touch. Mid-20th century. Dimensions: Height 1.80m x 0.40m per panel, totaling 2.40m. Very good overall condition
