Raymond Besse (1899-1969) Raymond Besse, born December 26, 1899 in Niort, Deux-Sèvres, died March 5, 1969 in Candé-sur-Beuvron, Loir-et-Cher, was a French painter. Raymond Besse arrived in Paris in 1916. He participated for the first time in the Salon des Indépendants in 1923. He subsequently participated in numerous other salons, including the Salon d'Automne. He frequently depicted the northern suburbs of Paris, Saint-Ouen, Montmartre, and Clichy, as he enjoyed painting these areas, and his paintings bear witness to life in working-class neighborhoods during the first half of the century. Raymond Besse also produced numerous works on the themes of Normandy and the Loire Valley. He spent his last years in Loir-et-Cher and died in 1969.
