Richly decorated with geometric patterns and stars, this pulley is unfinished. The pair of buffalo horns that should crown the Do mask are simply incised and not hollowed out.
It bears an old collection number, “1209.”
The Do is both a sacred principle—a symbol of order, wisdom, and social cohesion—and an initiatory society.
The Do mask is the physical manifestation of this force and these values, and ensures the link between the world of the living and that of the ancestors.
