This Biedermeier-style portrait, depicting a young nobleman against a mountainous landscape, was painted in 1840 by the Hungarian-born Austrian portraitist and miniaturist Antonin (Anton) Ferencz or Ferenz (1801-1888), who was active in Austria from 1834 to 1846.
