Concave Gilt Wood Mirror In Baroque Taste. Venice, 18th Century.
Concave carved and gilded wood mirror, Venice, mid-18th century.
Refined Baroque tabletop mirror, made of carved and gilded wood with original mercury glass and faux Verde Alpi marble lacquered wood bases. The frame, scenographic in structure and theatrically dynamic, is distinguished by a rich decorative repertoire of volutes, acanthus leaves, and phytomorphic motifs, carved in the airy and asymmetrical style typical of mid-18th century Venetian Baroque.
The original gilding, with red bole ground, retains a beautiful patina that enhances the sinuous lines and decorative grooves of the frame. The mirror, coeval, is slightly oxidised on the surface, with soft reflections that confirm its authenticity and antique charm.
Particularly valuable are the integrated support bases, decorated in faux marble and originally intended for displaying small Oriental vases, in line with the taste of the time—an uncommon and refined solution that enhances the elegance and functionality of the piece.
Very good condition, as shown in the photos: gilding in excellent state with minor wear and small losses consistent with age; structurally sound, antique mirror plate stable.
