17th Century Carved Oak Panel: Eagle And Flowers
Beautiful, deeply carved 17th-century wooden sculpture. Made of oak, it depicts an eagle with outstretched wings and flowers with leaves and ovules. It has a fantastic patina! The eagle symbolized strength, courage, farsightedness, and immortality. It is considered the king of the air and the messenger of the highest gods. Mythologically, it is associated by the Greeks with Zeus, by the Romans with Jupiter, by the Germanic tribes with Odin, and by Christians with God.
