"Sèvres Porcelain Bust Of Joseph Viala 1894"
Biscuit porcelain bust. Depicts Joseph Viala (1778-1793), a young revolutionary who died at the age of 15 preventing royalists from crossing the Durance River. Made at the Sèvres Manufactory. Marked S 94 for Sèvres 1894 and gilded Sèvres 1895 underneath. Sèvres 1894 NL-94-3 is incised on the back. Traces of old glue remain under the base. The blue enameled base is highlighted with gilding and titled Viala in a cartouche on the front.
