Vietnamese Lacquer Tray By Thanh Le, “auspicious Landscape”, 56.5 × 40.3 Cm, Mid-20th C.
Large Vietnamese sơn mài lacquer tray (56.5 × 40.3 cm) with a warm red ground, finely painted and gilded with a tranquil river landscape: islets with trees and houses, distant mountains, birds in flight, and small sailing boats. A raised rim frames the composition.
The scene bears a gold inscription in Chinese characters “吉祥山水” (Auspicious Landscape) — a traditional wish for harmony and good fortune. This rare subject is beautifully rendered in delicate linework and soft gilding, exemplifying the refined style of mid-20th-century Vietnamese lacquer painting.
The reverse is black lacquer, signed in gold “Thanh Le.”
