Object description :

"18th-century Earthenware Virgin Mary After Childbirth"
This Virgin Mary is in good overall condition for an 18th-century earthenware piece. We note some firing flaws on the child's head, including a visible crack on the back, and typical signs of wear. The Virgin of Childbirth is a statuette frequently found in homes from the 18th to the 19th centuries. On the Virgin's head is a hollowed-out crown with a two-centimeter diameter hole at the bottom. Holy water could be poured through this hole, and more importantly, a candle could be placed inside to be lit when the woman went into labor. Our photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object. For condition details, please examine the photos carefully. Feel free to zoom in. The photos are an integral part of the description.
