Fine Indian Deccan tinned copper ewer (aftaba) with elegant curved spout, dating to the late 18th–early 19th century.

The globular body is finely engraved with tear-shaped cartouches filled with floral and arabesque designs, typical of Deccani Islamic metalwork from Bidar or Hyderabad. The tinning remains in places, giving a subtle silvery sheen over the warm copper ground.

An engraved Persian inscription on the spout reads “ʿamal” (Arabic–Persian for “made by”), representing a traditional craftsman’s mark.

Used historically for water or ritual ablutions, this form — known as an aftaba — combines functionality with refined aesthetic balance.

Height: 33.5 cm
Condition: Good, with minor wear, oxidation, and small dents to the footrim, consistent with age and use.
