Sculpture "Joan of Arc" (circa 1880) – An exceptional bronze work, steeped in history and emotion. This bronze sculpture depicts Joan of Arc, seated with serene grace, her hands clasped, gazing toward the horizon with an expression of tenderness and confidence. Joan of Arc (1412-1431), an iconic heroine of France, was accused by the Inquisition and tragically executed, before becoming a national myth and a figure of devotion. In 1920, the Catholic Church canonized her, recognizing her sanctity and role in history. This work is a bronze reinterpretation of a marble original, now on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Produced using the traditional lost-wax process, this sculpture has been finely patinated and polished by hand, giving it exceptional quality and a very fine finish. It bears the signature of the famous sculptor Henri Michel Chapu (1833-1891), a renowned French artist. From the age of 22, Chapu distinguished himself by exhibiting at the Paris Salon of 1855, where he won the prestigious Prix de Rome, an award that allowed him to continue his artistic studies in Italy. His style, marked by idealized naturalism, was often inspired by Greek mythology, while remaining rooted in the aesthetic values of his time. Among his most famous works are the statue La Cantate, which adorns the main entrance of the Paris Opera, as well as the statue of the jurist Pierre-Antoine Berryer, installed in the Palais de Justice in Paris. His sensitive and expressive creations were widely appreciated and earned him numerous public commissions. This sculpture of Joan of Arc, with its 57 cm height and base diameter of 41 cm, is a testament to his talent. It bears not only the signature of Chapu, but also that of Ferdinand Barbedienne, the famous founder, as well as the Collas reduction stamp, guaranteeing its authenticity and historical value. A unique piece, combining art, history and spirituality, ideal for art lovers and passionate collectors.
