BIOGRAFY:Cesare Zocchi (Florence, January 1, 1851 - Turin, March 24, 1922) was an Italian sculptor who achieved great fame in the late nineteenth century.In 1879, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in Naples, then honorary professor in Perugia, and then professor of Sculpture at the Albertina Academy in Turin until his death.Among his many works, there were several statues for the façade of the Florence Cathedral and various monuments.Zocchi was a typical representative of the celebratory movement that found particular expression in late nineteenth-century rhetoric.His daughter Margherita Zocchi Bongi was his model for the sculpture on the façade of the Florence Cathedral and is depicted as Beatrice in the Dante Monument in Trento. His works are primarily exhibited in the most important Italian museums.
