Refined Biedermeier Coffee Table, Germany, Circa 1820
Elegant Biedermeier walnut veneered coffee table with a drop-leaf top and radial pattern veneer. The base consists of a central baluster column resting on a finely executed, classically shaped octagonal plinth. Provenance: Veste Coburg, inventory number Cap. III, no. 121. The underside bears an "E" mark under a crown, referring to Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, indicating the table's royal origin.
