Impossible Padlock, French Locksmithing From The Louis XV Period, Secret Recipe.
Artist: Ateliers Parisiens
Nice padlock, simple in appearance, two identical faces closed by 4 solid rivets. The key, superb, small, with a cross-shaped shank, bit with open holes, its base finely turned with 3 rings, its oval ring centered with a point shows predispositions to mystery.
photos, if you look carefully, will lead you to 2 secrets, defended by 2 internal springs which will allow you to make it work, provided you exert powerful pressure ..... not easy.
Then, once key is entered, (by countering the pressure of a spring), you will have to turn it one turn, then return half a turn before the second ... Not easy.
To remove the key once closed, not easy either.
So, be understanding, I deliver the open padlock, but do not at all ensure the putting in hands, which will be complicated, will take time, except for a wise collector.
Superb intelligent and finely crafted object, both locksmithing and clockmaking, early 18th century French.
Dimensions, closed 5.8cm x 4.6cm; key: 4.2cm x 2cm
