Superb Caucasian rug probably from Armenia. Woven and knotted wool on wool in the traditional way. Very beautiful pile, quite thick, the wool is ultra soft and silky. The colors are splendid, they have kept their freshness and shine for about a century. The piece is like new. Typical composition of certain Caucasian rugs with three large medallions on a central plain madder red field. Each medallion contains a constellation of stars.
