20th-century large-scale oil painting on wood panel signed Jean Schoumann (19th & 20th century) in the lower right corner.
A lovely winter landscape captured in a moody palette of browns and pinks.
We can see bare trees in a light, airy composition with diffuse depth. The atmosphere is gentle and quiet, marked by the light of an open sky. The foreground, treated in large horizontal strokes, contrasts with the fine vertical lines of the trees, guiding the gaze to the background.
The work is signed Jean Schoumann, an artist not well documented, but one with an Impressionist touch that attests to a decorative style and sensitivity to composition.
The wood panel is in good condition despite a dark linear mark in the middle of the sky. The frame has two 3.1" marks which have been regilded but remain visible on the lower part.
