"18th Century French Tapestry"
Large copy of an 18th century French tapestry. In the Netherlands, we often call these tapestries Gobelins, but this is not a collective name for all antique tapestries. Gobelins was just one very well-known tapestry producer. Our copy comes from France and dates from the 18th century. The tapestry depicts a large, exotic castle garden with many trees and plants. A castle can be seen in the background. In good condition. The colors are still very vibrant. Beautiful shades of blue, green, yellow, and gold. Marks of use consistent with the age and custom of tapestries of this age. In several places, a few holes from centuries of hanging and an old burn mark from a candle.
