Emanuele Brugnoli (Bologna, 1859 – Venice, 1944)
Etching depicting the Basilica of St. Mark in Venice, executed in the 1920s. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under Valentino Solmi, the artist devoted himself to watercolour views and etchings, focusing much of his work on Venetian subjects and architectural perspectives.
In this piece, Brugnoli portrays the famous basilica with careful attention to architectural detail and the spatial depth of the square. The plate measures 17.5 × 23 cm, while the full sheet measures 47.8 × 33.7 cm. The signature “E. Brugnoli inc.” appears at the lower left, and on the left margin, in pencil, is the title “52. Chiesa San Marco.”
Good condition. The current frame is not contemporary to the work.
