Exceptional Art Deco Female Face Sculpture & Lamp
With spectacular and imposing dimensions for a work of this nature, this exceptional Art Deco sculpture is carved from a stone that may be slate, depicting a woman's face. While it could have been an architectural element, it is also possible that this piece served as a study or a maquette for a larger work. Although unsigned, the quality and finesse of the carving suggest it is the work of a significant artist of the period, in the vein of names such as Bourdelle, Delamarre or Janniot who is in my opinion the most serious hypothesis.
The top lamp fixture is easily removable, allowing the piece to be presented as a standalone sculpture. It is mounted on a period base (circa 1930) with a brass frame and a green marble base, likely from the French Alps.
