Although completely forgotten today, Boigegrain was nevertheless a talented painter, as evidenced by the high quality of this still life. The subtle harmony of the white, blue and green colors is quite remarkable and gives it a certain modernity.
Little information is known about the artist, except that he exhibited interior scenes and still lifes at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants between 1902 and 1912. He was also an associate member of the Salon des Cent, which held numerous exhibitions between 1894 and 1900.
The artist appears to have been influenced by both the intimate decorative painting of Vuillard and Bonnard and Post-Impressionist painting.
