Object description :

"Set Of Three Carved Spoons – Spoon – Folk Art – Auvergne – Primitive Art"
Second half of the 19th century Haute-Loire, Auvergne France Set of three fruitwood spoons, hand-carved in the Haute-Loire mountain tradition. Each of them bears witness to a modest and instinctive know-how, inherited from the rural world of 19th-century Auvergne. Carved with a knife by cowherd boys or peasants during evening gatherings, they reflect this singular alliance between necessity and personal expression. The shapes vary according to the hand that shaped them: one has an almond-shaped spoon, hollowed deep into a tightly grained wood; another, more naive, is distinguished by a handle formed of two superimposed, almost anthropomorphic discs; the last, more crude, reveals the spontaneity of the gesture, with its irregular facets and wear from use. The set exudes a particular emotion, that of objects that have been used, handled day after day, carrying simple and silent gestures. These popular spoons, imbued with rustic beauty, remind us that art is often born where the tool replaces the brush, and where patience replaces technique. Deep patina, visible tool marks, wood polished by time: three sincere witnesses of a vanished rural art, made to last and tell stories. Condition: wear from use, stable surface and old patina. Lengths: 16 - 18 and 21 cm. ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
