Splendid early 19th-century Russian icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, depicted frontally, blessing with his right hand and holding the Gospel in his left. On the sides, medallions depict Christ and the Virgin, in accordance with Orthodox iconographic tradition.
The work is enriched with a chased silver riza (oklad), featuring a sunburst halo and precious decorations with vegetal and geometric motifs. The hallmarks on the edge attest to its authenticity and the period of manufacture: silver fineness 84 zolotniki (875/1000), silversmith's hallmark with the initials I.B. and the date 1810, as well as the imperial hallmark with a control head.
