Oil on canvas with a pitcher and fruit by Barbara Konstan dating from the 1950s, signed. Barbara Konstan (1895‒1966) was a French painter of Polish origin: she grew up between Eastern Europe and France before settling in Paris. She obtained French nationality in March 1947, alongside her husband, the painter Sigismond Olesiewicz, known under the pseudonym Jean Olin. She distinguished herself with a sensitive, often figurative body of work, imbued with light and a discreet lyricism. Her favorite themes were still lifes, bouquets of flowers, religious scenes, and some meditative landscapes. Her style is part of the modernist tradition of the interwar period, sometimes close to the Cubist school of Central Europe, but always marked by a personal approach to poetic realism. His works, produced mainly between the 1930s and 1950s, are now known through private collections and a few auctions.
