"Pair Of Marble And Gilt Bronze Cassolettes, Attributed To Thomire, 19th Century"
Pair of cassolettes in Turquin blue and Siena yellow marble, richly decorated with finely chiseled gilt bronzes. Each piece rests on a lively base in Siena yellow marble, supporting an openwork base decorated with winged gilt bronze griffins. The bowl, in Turquin blue marble, is encircled by a frieze of foliage and surmounted by female figures with mermaid tails playing the flute, a symbol of harmony and elegance. The extremely fine details — palmettes, garlands and leafy motifs — bear witness to the exceptional expertise of Pierre-Philippe Thomire, a famous 19th-century bronze-worker.
