THE RAPE OF THE SABINE WOMEN (STUDY)
Black chalk (crayon noir) on paper, signed lower right J. Pazzi (?)
25.5 × 20 cm / 10 × 7.9 in
framed without glass: 33.5 × 27 cm / 13.2 × 10.6 in
This finely observed drawing represents the abduction of a Sabine woman — a subject deeply rooted in the Neoclassical repertoire of the early nineteenth century. Executed with confident, economical lines, it may have served as a preparatory study for a larger composition. An excellent example of Italian academic draftsmanship of the period.
Provenance: Vienna, private collection
