Bronze Sculpture "the Puddler At Rest" By Constantin Meunier
His paintings and especially his sculptures (from 1885) constitute a sort of naturalist epic of man at work, suffering, enslaved or rebellious. The world of industrial Belgium provided him with realistic themes, he found his way by turning definitively towards the great subject of the last part of his life: the world of work in Belgium. It is in sculpture above all, which occupies the largest part of his activity, that Meunier's art finds its fulfillment. He exhibited successfully at the Paris Salon in 1886. The puddler is an emblematic sculpture by Constantin Meunier, created between 1884 and 1888. This work, in bronze, represents an ironworker, the puddler, seated in a resting posture.
