He joined the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs and the École des beaux-arts de Paris where he was admitted to the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme, before settling in that of Jean-Paul Laurens. Edmond Picard was admitted to the Salon exhibitions from 1881, was a member of the Society of French Artists, and won the Troyon prize for animal painting in 1885. Exhibited throughout France, he returned to Beure in 1892. He was one of the founders of the Union comtoise des arts décoratifs in 1893, and was involved in the Municipal School of Fine Arts in Besançon, until 1899, alongside Léon Boudot and Luc Franceschi. In March 1896, he joined the International Society of Painting and Sculpture, which was hosted for its exhibitions at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris.
