Superb Caucasian rug from Karabag in Armenia. Woven and knotted wool on wool in the traditional way. The knotted stitch is that of old Caucasian rugs, very short, almost close-knotted. The piece is supple, rather light. The patterns are made with extreme precision. We instantly feel the weaver's mastery. 8 medallions on the central field surrounded by borders with star motifs. The plant shades are subtle and of a rare elegance. Some colors are rather unexpected. All in perfect harmony. Bar stitches made at both ends. The two outer borders are in perfect condition. Some restorations have been carried out by a highly qualified professional. Some signs of wear on the central field, rather discreet. The borders are intact.
