Biography
Mario Peruggini (1923 – …) was born in Italy. He trained in drawing and ceramics in Urbino before moving to Belgium in 1947, where he studied at the École Industrielle Commerciale et de Dessin in Châtelet. He later became a student of Alphonse Darville at the Academy of Fine Arts in Charleroi.
In 1952, he was hired by Roger Guérin as a sculptor, modeler and molder, producing architectural works. In 1957, he joined Crame-Crame in Chatelineau, specializing in sculpture. He later became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Charleroi, where he ended his career.
Peruggini exhibited in 1965 at the 38th Salon de Charleroi. He sometimes signed his works with the monogram “MP”. An animal sculptor, he created tense and improbable depictions of bulls, horses and dogs. Women were also a central subject in his work (busts, torsos, nudes).
