"Virgin And Child Sphère Of Leonardo Grazia (1503-1550)"
A sumptuous green curtain with fine gold edges forms the backdrop to this tender and joyful depiction of the Madonna, who is tightly holding her lively son in her arms, in a playful and hilarious mood. He is not standing still and takes a very particular position, almost about to fall, he slips the fingers of his left hand under his mother's collar, as if it were a hold to hold on, while with the other he serenely plays with the big toe of her foot. Joy and pride are expressed on the face of the Madonna who, without hesitation or impatience, smiles and holds him tightly in her arms.
From an initial stylistic analysis and the figurative elements, we can assert that we are faced with a painting probably executed in the close circle of the Pistoia Mannerist painter Leonardo Grazia (1503-1550 ca.), who may have provided the iconographic prototype for execution on canvas, given the close stylistic coincidences with his important graphic works.
The canvas measures 53cm x 42cm, and the framed dimensions are 61cm x 50cm.
