This superb gray terracotta kantharos, distinguished by its tall stem and elegantly arched handles, dates back approximately 2,000 years, as confirmed by a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by the Brussels Art Laboratory (certificate dated July 3, 2010; see attached images and translation).
The deep gray-black surface, enriched with mineral deposits and concretions related to the passage of time, reflects the refined ceramic traditions of ancient Greece.
Measuring 33 cm high and 24.9 cm wide, the piece is distinguished by its harmonious proportions and its sober yet noble aesthetic, making it both an important collector's artifact and a remarkable decorative accent. Condition: Good antique condition, consistent with age and use.
Surface wear, mineral deposits, and small abrasions attest to its authenticity and long history. No modern restorations are visible. Provenance: Accompanied by a thermoluminescence dating certificate from the Brussels Art Laboratory, confirming a last firing approximately 2000 years ago (margin of error ±25%).
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of classical antiquity — an object of timeless elegance, which will appeal to discerning collectors, connoisseurs, and interior designers alike.
