Bronze statuette representing Shiva Nataraja from Tamil Nadu (South India) early 20th century.
Shiva Nataraja "lord of dance" crushes the dwarf Apasmara, symbol of ignorance, under his right foot.
His attributes are a tambourine and a flame, symbols of the creation and destruction of the universe. His long, floating locks recall the river goddess Ganga.
Beautiful finesse of the carving and details, lovely patina.
