"Old Man Plate Series Of Large Animals After Millet 19th"
Fine earthenware plate from the Japanese-style service known as "Grands Oiseaux" (Large Birds), based on designs by Millet and produced by Amédée de Carenza for Vieillard in Bordeaux. It was produced by the Jules Vieillard factory in Bordeaux in the 1870s. The varied designs illustrate the eclectic movement that was taking over the arts during the second half of the 19th century. The plates are enhanced and glazed. This is one of Vieillard's most valuable services. Millet drew inspiration from Japanese prints by Hokusai and other artists to create this service and reflects the 19th-century fascination with Japanese art. Elements from this set are held at the Musée du Petit Palais in Paris and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design in Bordeaux, highlighting its artistic and historical importance. One of the finest services produced in the 19th century. Vieillard's signature in Japanese style on the back. The plate is in perfect condition. Dim. 22.5 cm ø.
